It should be noted that the estimates for 1975 onwards are based on the results of the bi-annual series of labour force surveys initiated in that year whereas the estimates for the period prior to 1975 are based on census of population results with estimates for inter censal years based on trend indicators. As the labour force survey involves a number of differences in methodology and in definitions which effect the measurement of the labour force, the survey results are not strictly comparable with the census based figures.
