Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

532.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a deserted wife's allowance will be paid to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 10.

The person concerned has been awarded deserted wife's benefit, at the maximum rate appropriate to a woman with three qualified children, with effect from 2 September 1982. A pension book with orders payable from 4 November 1982 has been issued to the designated post office for collection by her and she has been notified accordingly.

The arrears due for the period from 2 September to 3 November 1982 will be sent to her shortly by payable order after adjustment for the amount of supplementary welfare allowance which she received from the Eastern Health Board since 2 September 1982.

533.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange to pay a widow's pension to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

The person concerned has been awarded a widow's contributory pension, at the maximum rate appropriate to a widow with five qualified children, with effect from 3 September 1982. A pension book with orders payable from 1 October 1982 has been issued to the designated post office for collection by her and she has been notified accordingly.

The arrears of pension due for the period from 3 to 30 September 1982 have been sent direct to her by payable order.

534.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will pay unemployment benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

Inquiries to establish the contribution record of the person concerned were recently completed and all arrears of unemployment benefit due to him were paid last week. Weekly payments of unemployment benefit at £48.80 will continue to be made to him as they become due.

535.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will pay unemployment assistance to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

The person concerned is not entitled to unemployment assistance as the means assessed against him, £26.90, exceeds the maximum rate of unemployment assistance which would be payable to him.

It is open to him to appeal against the assessment of his means and to have this matter determined by an appeals officer. A form for this purpose may be obtained at his local office.

536.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a new pension book will be issued to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

A replacement pension book was issued to the person concerned on 26 October 1982, payable at Enniscorthy Post Office.

537.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether there is any outstanding disability benefit due to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal for the period between the commencement of his illness and the granting of a contributory old age pension.

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 21 January 1980. He was paid initially at the maximum weekly rate appropriate to a single person but on receipt of details of his dependants an adjusting payment in respect of his wife and four children was issued in June 1980. Payment at the rate appropriate to a married man with four qualified children was made thereafter for the full period of his claim up to 27 January 1981. After that date he qualified for payment of an old age contributory pension at the appropriate rate.

The claimant's disability benefit claim has been re-examined and it has been established that he was paid at the full rate to which he was entitled for the period of his claim.

538.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason disability benefit has not been issued to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal.

The person concerned was in receipt of disability benefit from 9 July 1981 to 10 July 1982. Payment ceased after that date as she had fewer than the required minimum 156 paid contributions to her credit since her entry into insurance to entitle her to further payment. She cannot requalify for further payment of benefit until she resumes employment and has at least 13 weeks of insurable employment after the date of last payment of benefit.

Credited contributions have been allowed on the medical evidence which she has furnished to date.
