Vol. 338 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Galway Water Schemes.

567.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position in regard to the Lisheenkyle, Derrydonnell and Ballyglass-Liddane group water scheme in County Galway.

568.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received an application for a special contribution from the Ballyglass-Fiddane group water scheme, County Galway; and when a decision will be made on the application.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 567 and 568 together. The design for the proposed Ballyglass-Fiddane group water scheme, County Galway, has been approved by my Department and by Galway County Council. Work may go ahead on the scheme provided the necessary insurance and road opening licence have been obtained. An informal application for a special contribution was made through the Department's group schemes inspector. A special contribution towards the cost of this scheme is not justified, as the local contributions will average less than £350 per member.

There is no record in my Department of a group water scheme at Lisheenkyle, County Galway. The design for the Derrydonnell group water scheme has been approved by my Department and by Galway County Council, subject to the group's laying a 10-inch main to allow for inclusion of the group scheme in Zone 3 of the Mid-Galway Regional Water Supply Scheme. An estimate of cost for the scheme is now being prepared by my Department's local inspector and the group will be asked to complete the necessary grant application forms. If all is in order it is hoped to issue a certificate of approval provisionally allocating State grants to the group in the near future.
