Vol. 338 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - County Wexford National Schools.

326.

asked the Minister for Education when sanction for the new national school at Glynn, County Wexford, will be given; and the present position in relation to this school.

Dublin South-East): Sketch-plans for a new national school at Glynn, County Wexford, were approved by my Department in November 1981 and a grant towards the cost was sanctioned in January 1982.

Subsequent to the approval of these plans, there was a change of mind at local level concerning the location of the new school and it was eventually decided to acquire an extension to the site of the existing school and to extend the school. Planning on that basis was authorised in July 1982.

Sketch-plans for the revised proposal were submitted to my Department recently and are being examined at present.

327.

asked the Minister for Education when he will ensure that Bree national school, County Wexford, is brought up to a satisfactory standard in view of the undertaking given earlier this year to have the Office of Public Works furnish a report on the matter.

Dublin South-East): As stated in the reply of 1 June 1982 to the Deputy's previous Question concerning Bree national school, County Wexford, the provision of a prefabricated classroom has been sanctioned by my Department. The Commissioners of Public Works will advise the chairman regarding the necessary arrangements for the provision of this room and will report to my Department. When this report has been received, a grant towards the cost will be sanctioned.

As was also stated in the previous reply, the Commissioners of Public Works have been asked to report on the necessary work required to keep the existing prefabricated classroom usable pending the erection of the permanent extension to the school. The Commissioners' report is awaited. When the report has been received it will be considered in my Department without delay.

328.

asked the Minister for Education when he will sanction the building of an extension to Courtnacuddy national school, County Wexford.

Dublin South-East): It is understood from the Commissioners of Public Works that they expect to be in a position soon to submit their proposals concerning the invitation of tenders for the proposed extension to Courtnacuddy national school, County Wexford, for the consideration of my Department.
