Vol. 338 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Travelling Expenses to English Hospital.

412.

asked the Minister for Health the present position regarding the situation relating to the payment of travelling expenses for a child in Dublin, and his parent (details supplied), who are obliged to travel to England a number of times during the year to receive treatment for diseases which Irish hospitals cannot treat; whether this will be affected by public spending cuts in his Department and in the health boards; if he will make provision for this in his Estimates and for what percentage of the cost; and if expenses will be paid retrospectively.

I have been informed by the Eastern Health Board that they have met in full the travelling expenses of this child and his parent to England since 1979. It is understood that the board propose to continue these payments in the future.
