I assume that the Deputy is referring to an incident which occurred in Castleblayney on 9 August last and which involved four off-duty members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary.
The Garda authorities have informed me that the Garda decision was taken in the light of the very difficult circumstances obtaining locally at the time and in the interests of safety both of the members of the RUC and of members of the Garda Síochána. I do not think it would be appropriate for me to make any comment on the matter.
