Vol. 339 No. 5

Written Answers. - Youth Levy Scheme.

269.

asked the Minister for Labour his position in regard to the request of the Olympic Council of Ireland that 1 per cent of the youth levy scheme be invested in sport.

Under the provisions of the Youth Employment Agency Act, 1981, the proceeds of the youth employment levy may be used only to defray the expenditure of the Youth Employment Agency in the performance of its functions and such other expenditure in relation to the training and employment of young persons as the Minister for Labour may determine with the consent of the Minister for Finance. Payments from the levy for a purpose such as proposed by the Olympic Council of Ireland, are, therefore, precluded under the Act.
