Vol. 339 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clogherhead (Louth) New National School.

17.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to seek tenders for a new national school at Clogherhead, County Louth.

The site offered by the manager for the proposed new national school at Clogherhead, County Louth forms part of lands which are being developed by the county council for housing and other amenities.

The Office of Public Works are awaiting details from the county council through the school manager regarding the location of the access roads and the precise boundaries of the site so that the sketch plans for the school can be prepared.

At this stage I cannot say when tenders can be invited.

Would the Minister agree that there is an urgent need for a new school in this area and will he do his utmost to have tenders invited as soon as possible?

I agree that there is a need for a new school. As the site forms part of lands being developed by the county council, it is the task of the manager to bring us the revised layout of roads and boundaries. We have approached Louth County Council in the matter and we are very anxious to help. I assure the Deputy that there will be no delay on our part.

If I inform the Minister that I began my teaching career in that school in Clogherhead I am sure he will take particular interest in the matter.

I will indeed.
