Vol. 339 No. 9

Written Answers. - Ballymun (Dublin) Heating Installation Applications.

218.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of applications received from the residents of Silloge Gardens, Shangan Gardens, Coultry Gardens and Balcurris Gardens in Ballymun, Dublin, for the installation of solid fuel heating units; the number of these units installed in the houses; the number that remains to be installed; and, in view of the fact that open fires are not permitted in these houses and the high cost of gas which is the sole means of heating them, if he intends to provide adequate funding to Dublin Corporation for the installation of these units in the coming financial year.

Information provided by Dublin Corporation indicates that a total of 281 applications for the installation of solid fuel heating units have been received from the residents of the areas listed by the Deputy.

A total of 87 such units were installed in 1982. The corporation have indicated that they propose to instal the remaining units on a phased basis over the following three year period.

I understand from the corporation that application will be made to my Department in due course for the loan and grant facilities to enable them to carry out the work.
