Vol. 339 No. 9

Written Answers. - Fermoy (Cork) New Garda Headquarters.

371.

asked the Minister for Justice his plans regarding the proposal for a Garda divisional headquarters at Fermoy, County Cork; and the date of the proposed change.

Limerick East): An examination of the organisation of the Garda Síochána in Cork city and surrounding areas is nearing completion and it is expected that recommendations arising from it will shortly be submitted to me for decision. At present the Garda Division of Cork east covers the entire Cork city area and also the adjoining districts of Mallow, Blarney, Fermoy, Midleton and Cobh. It is thought that any reorganisation may involve the creation of a division to cater exclusively for the city area and the establishment of a new division to take charge of a new grouping of districts in the Cork county area. I understand that the most suitable location for the headquarters for such a division, if it is to be established, would be Fermoy.
