The programme of decentralisation, including the scheme of Government offices at Ballina, has, as announced in the principal features of the budget statement, been cancelled.
Privitisation proposals were received from developers and financial institutions in respect of the Ballina scheme. These proposals were not competitive with direct construction by the Office of Public Works under the Public Capital Programme.
