Vol. 340 No. 11

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

149.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when it is proposed to erect a telephone kiosk at Ardlaghan, Cloghan, County Donegal.

Ardlaghan is not included in this year's programme. It will be considered for inclusion in a future programme.

169.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will issue a directive to have a telephone service reconnected to Inishfree Island, County Donegal bearing in mind that the island is still inhabited and that this service is vital to fishermen.

Telephone service to Inishfree Island will be resumed provided a suitable candidate is forthcoming for the current vacancy for call office attendant on the island. The vacancy which occurred recently without prior notice is being advertised locally without delay.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will give the following information in respect of each personal assistant, adviser, consultant, secretary, typist or any other category employed from outside the civil service in a temporary, part-time or permanent capacity or contractual capacity, for the period 18 December 1982 to date: name, rank, remuneration, terms of conditions of employment, if seconded, and, if so, from where.

There is no change in the position as set out in my reply of 26 January 1983 to a similar question from the deputy, viz:—

Name: Ms. Sheila Nathan; Position: Personal Secretary to the Minister of State (Mr. Donnellan); Conditions of appointment: Full-time under excluding order. She is on secondment from Dáil Éireann and her appointment will terminate not later than the date on which the Government ceases to hold office; Pay: £125.06 per week.

212.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give the following information in respect of each personal assistant, adviser, consultant, secretary, typist or any other category employed from outside the civil service in a temporary, part-time or permanent capacity or contractual capacity, for the period 18 December 1982 to date: name, rank, terms of conditions of employment, if seconded, and, if so, from where.

Two appointments have been made under excluding order at my Department since 18 December 1983. Miss Bernadette Grogan has been appointed as my personal secretary and Mr. James Reilly has been appointed as personal assistant to the Minister of State at the Department of Finance.

Both officers are on secondment from the Houses of the Oireachtas where they served as secretarial assistants. They have remained on the pay scale applicable to their former posts.

The appointments are temporary and will terminate not later than the date on which the present Government cease to hold office. The appointees will be required to carry out any duties which may be assigned to them at any time by the Minister for Finance or the Minister of State at the Department of Finance respectively as appropriate to the posts.

242.

asked the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism if he will give the following information in respect of each personal assistant, adviser, consultant, secretary, typist or any other category employed from outside the civil service in a temporary, part-time or permanent capacity or contractual capacity, for the period 18 December 1982 to date: name, rank, remuneration, terms of conditions of employment, if seconded, and, if so, from where.

Ms. Mary Turley has been appointed as my personal assistant at a salary of £11,500 per annum and Mrs. Margaret Shiel as my personal secretary at a salary of £168.79 per week.

While Ms. Helen Rush has been appointed as personal assistant to the Minister of State, the rate of remuneration has not yet been finalised.

All three appointments will be on a full-time temporary non-established basis under excluding orders made by the Civil Service Commissioners under the Civil Service Commissioners Act 1956 and the three appointments will be coterminus with my period of office or that of my Minister of State. The only appointee who is on secondment is Mrs. Shiel who is seconded from the Houses of the Oireachtas.

282.

asked the Minister for Health if he will give the following information in respect of each personal assistant, adviser, consultant, secretary, typist or any other category employed from outside the civil service in a temporary, part-time or permanent capacity or contractual capacity, for the period 18 December 1982 to date: name, rank, remuneration, terms of conditions of employment, if seconded, and, if so, from where.

No persons from outside the civil service have been employed in any capacity in my office or in the office of the Minister of State at the Department of Health.
