464.

asked the Minister for Finance the projects that will be shelved as a result of the Government's decision to omit the Border fund allocation of £3.4 million for capital investment from their revised Public Capital Programme.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to answer Questions Nos. 463 and 464 together.

An allocation of £1.65 million for capital investment has been provided in the Public Capital Programme 1983 for the Special Border Areas Programme Fund.

The Special Border Area Programme Fund, which was established in 1980 for the implementation of the Special Five Year Border Areas Programme, is fed each year by way of a grant-in-aid in the Vote for the Office of the Minister for Finance. At the end of 1982 an amount of £2.4 million was undrawn from this fund. With the additional allocation of IR £2 million (IR £1.6 million for capital investment and IR £0.35 million for current expenditure) the total amount available for expenditure in 1983 is IR £4.4 million. This compares favourably with expenditure in previous years. There is, therefore, no question of shelving any projects.
