Vol. 341 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - County Waterford Industry .

15.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if, in view of the need for industry in Kilmacthomas, County Waterford, he will recommend to the IDA that land be purchased for the purpose of industry.

: I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that there is a total of 600 acres of land and 288,830 sq. ft. of factory space available for industrial development in Waterford city and county. Accordingly, the IDA have no plans at present to acquire land at Kilmacthomas, County Waterford.

: In the Minister's own constituency? That is strange.

: We have plenty of factory space. The Deputy need not worry about Waterford. It will be well catered for.

: Factories or factory space?

: Factory space for new industries.

16.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if, in view of the serious lack of employment in west Waterford, he will make a statement on the progress being made by the IDA on procuring an industry for the advance factory at Cappoquin, County Waterford.

: I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that they are actively promoting the 10,000 sq. ft. advance factory at Cappoquin and the former Cappoquin bacon factory for suitable industrial projects.

There have been nine visits by potential investors to the advance factory since it was completed in March 1982 but no firm proposals have emerged to date. The IDA are also promoting an 18.5 acre site in Cappoquin for industrial development.

: Cappoquin would need reassurance. It is in County Waterford.

: They can entertain good hopes for prosperity in the future.
