asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that the public telephone kiosk provided recently at Athenry railway station, County Galway, is not available to residents in the adjoining area when the station is closed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

: The public telephone in Athenry railway station is available to the public between the hours of 7.30 a.m. in the morning to 1.00 a.m. at night. There is also a public telephone kiosk at Caheroyan within 700 yards of the area when the station is closed.

: It has not been possible to provide service for the person named so far because of the volume of engineering work on hands and requiring attention in the area. There is also a shortage of terminations at the local exchange.

It is expected that service will be provided within about a year.
