Written Answers . - School Transport .

716.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the primary school transport charges of £10 each per term for persons (details supplied) in County Westmeath; and if she will have this case reviewed.

: The pupils in question are ineligible for free school transport under the terms of the primary school transport scheme as they live within the specified minimum distance from their nearest school. Where such pupils are carried on a school bus, the concessionary term fare is £10 per pupil.

717.

asked the Minister for Education the present position in regard to second level school transport charges for a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath.

718.

asked the Minister for Education the present school transport charges for persons (details supplied) in County Westmeath; and when there will be a refund of fees in this case.

719.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding second level school transport charges for a person (details supplied) in County Longford.

: I propose to take Question Nos. 717, 718 and 719 together.

The pupils referred to in Questions Nos. 717 and 718 have transport to centres other than those designated for school transport purposes as serving the areas where they reside. They are, therefore, availing themselves of catchment boundary facilities and a contribution of £24 per term is payable in respect of each child using such facility.

Exemption on the basis of parents-legal guardians holding a medical card applies only in the case of pupils attending their appropriate centre.

The pupil referred to in Question No. 719 is a senior cycle pupil attending her appropriate centre and a contribution of £24 per term is payable in her case.
