Vol. 341 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - National Manpower Offices .

4.

asked the Minister for Labour if his Department have any plans to open additional national manpower offices in County Donegal.

: The need for offices of the National Manpower Service is kept under regular review. In County Donegal the NMS has offices in Ballybofey, Dungloe and Letterkenny and clinics are operated in other towns. I am satisfied that there is no need to open additional offices in the county at the present time.

: Can I take it that none of the offices or clinics in Donegal will close?

: There is no such intention. A number of additional placement officers are being recruited to the National Manpower Service and the Deputy will be glad to hear that two of them will be assigned to County Donegal.

: Is the Minister at liberty to indicate how many officers will be appointed to County Donegal, when the appointments will be made and the Manpower offices to which they will be assigned?

: As I have indicated, two officers will be assigned to the county. I do not have information as to the centres to which they will be assigned but if the Deputy requires this information I will be glad to obtain it.

: Would the Minister consider opening a Manpower office in Buncrana in view of the fact that the people of the Inishowen Peninsula must travel a considerable distance to Letterkenny or Ballybofey?

: The need for offices is kept under regular review but it is not felt that there is a need to open additional offices in the county at present. The needs of the Buncrana area are served by regular clinics. That will be kept under review.

: Is the Minister aware that there is grave concern in that area about the service provided by Manpower due to the fact that they do not operate an office there? Would he agree to review the matter?

: I am quite prepared to listen to any representations which Deputy Conaghan or any other Deputy from the county may wish to make.
