Vol. 341 No. 11

Order of Business .

: It is proposed to take No. 6.

: I should like to ask the Taoiseach if the Finance Bill will be circulated today and, if so, at what time approximately.

: It is being circulated this morning.

(Limerick West): Will the Taoiseach ask the Minister for Agriculture to take the initiative in bringing the agricultural price review to a speedy conclusion? I should like to point out to the Taoiseach that our farming population are losing at the rate of £500,000 per day.

: That is not in order; it is not proper.

(Limerick West): The Taoiseach should ask the Minister for Agriculture to take the initiative.

: The Deputy may be correct in thinking that but this is not the proper time to raise it.

: Will the Taoiseach indicate when the debate on the Finance Bill will take place?

: That is a matter for discussion between the Whips but the normal practice is for the Opposition to have the Bill for a week before the debate takes place because it is a complex measure. Subject to agreement between the Whips, we would be happy to start it this day week so as to give the maximum time for discussion on it before the deadline of 12 May.

: We can talk about the date.

: It is a matter for the Whips. It is a matter of giving maximum time for debate but it is for the Opposition to determine what is most convenient for them.

: I should like permission to raise the subject matter of Questions Nos. 304 and 305 on yesterday's Order Paper on the Adjournment.

: The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

: Has there been any further developments in relation to the establishment of the all-party committee on marriage and marital problems? Have the consultations with the leader of Fianna Fáil been completed?

: The consultations with regard to this and other committees are proceeding and, as I understand it, we are awaiting a response from the Fianna Fáil Party. It is not just this committee but a whole range of committees.

: I should like to ask the Taoiseach when it is proposed to take Item No. 9, Companies (Amendment) Bill, about which there has been a lot of publicity. There has been a lot of talk about the need to review company law and in view of that will that item be taken in the immediate future?

: Subject to agreement between the Whips, it is proposed to take that item in the coming week.

: Is the Taoiseach aware that submarines were sighted off the Wexford coast recently by fishermen? Has the Taoiseach had this matter investigated?

: The Deputy is well aware that that is not in order.

: I am concerned about this in the light of what happened in the Irish Sea when a trawler was drawn in by a submarine.

: This matter is not in order and the Deputy is aware of that. Since I appealed for order on the Order of Business there has been a big improvement and I am asking for a continuation of that.

: I should like permission to raise this matter on the Adjournment.

: The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.
