: The information requested by the Deputy is as follows:
(a) the total inflow, net of withdrawls, into building societies in 1982 was £161 million,
(b) payments totalling £292 million were made to loan applicants. Loans worth £329 million in all were approved and,
(c) the amount of income tax paid by building societies in 1982, in respect of interest credited to their investors in 1981, is estimated to be £42 million.
