Vol. 341 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions . Oral Answers . - Chapelizod (Dublin) Environmental Damage .

4.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the environmental damage caused to the ancient and unique village of Chapelizod, Dublin, over a year ago by the demolition by the post office authorities of a red brick house in the main square there, despite the protests of the villagers; if he will now take steps to have the house restored and the high grey walls which have been built in its place removed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

: The development of the property owned by my Department at Chapelizod was carried out in accordance with the 1963 Local Government Planning and Development Act.

I do not consider the development to have adversely affected the character of Chapelizod village.

Discussions were held at the time with the Chapelizod Residents' Association and a number of alterations requested by them were agreed and implemented. It would not be feasible to reconstruct the two houses.
