Vol. 342 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

842.

asked the Minister for Education the reason school transport has not been arranged for a person (details supplied) in County Offaly who paid the money for her ticket last January.

Transport in accordance with the standards applied under the terms of the school transport scheme is available to this pupil. This is subject to the payment of the appropriate transport contribution of £14 in respect of the Easter to Summer term which applies to a junior cycle pupil who attends his or her appropriate post-primary centre.

843.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware that Curraheen national school, Glenbeigh, County Kerry, has been closed because it is in disrepair; if she is aware that the children in the area must now walk a distance of five miles to the nearest school; if so, if she will arrange free public transport for them as a matter of urgency; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The Department have received no request to provide transport for the pupils in question. If full details are forwarded to the Department through the chairman of the board of management, the matter will be considered.
