Vol. 342 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Indirect Tax Increases.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance the amount of extra revenue which indirect tax increases in the 1983 budget is expected to raise.

The extra revenue in indirect taxes which is expected to arise from the increases announced in the 1983 budget is £109.5 million.

Has the Minister recalculated this figure in view of the positive incentive for people to travel across the Border and do their shopping there with a consequent loss to the revenue and the State?

No. That is an item that is being kept under review. The first quarter returns show that tax revenue will be more or less on target so far although it is something that must be monitored very closely.
