Vol. 342 No. 5

Written Answers. - Drogheda VEC.

677.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of the very serious situation which now exists at Drogheda VEC, County Louth where ten teachers' positions and jobs will be lost this year due to her Department's new regulations which have just been issued; if she is aware that there are 1,400 pupils between two schools on the opposite side of the town which is causing massive administrative problems for staff; and if she will urgently review this matter.

There is one vocational school, operating in two separate locations, in the scheme in question. In order to facilitate the administration of the school, my Department have authorised the creation of a post of principal separate from that of chief executive officer, the assignment of the principal to the larger section of the school and the assignment of the viceprincipal to the smaller section for as long as the school continues to utilise premises in both locations.

The allocation of teaching staff authorised for full-time day courses in respect of the coming school year represents a reduction of three teachers in the number allocated for the current year. This allocation is in line with that being applied to large post primary schools generally in the context of the introduction from the commencement of the next school year of revised staffing regulations.
