Information as to the number of rate collectors in each local authority has been compiled from returns submitted by local authorities in relation to numbers employed at 31 December 1982, which is the latest date for which figures are available. This is set out in the attached tabular statement which I propose to circulate with the Official Report. The figures include officers whose duties embrace rate collection work, such as revenue collectors and rent/rate collectors.
The salaries and expenses of rate collectors vary not only from local authority to local authority but even within individual local authorities. Consequently the time required for compilation of the requisite information would be disproportionate.
