Vol. 342 No. 9

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take No. 6, Votes Nos. 27, 47, 48, 34 and 35.

(Dublin North-West): Would the Taoiseach or the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs be prepared to make a statement on the closing of a radio station in Dublin yesterday?

A question is in order.

If the Deputy wishes to put down a question I will be happy to answer it.

The Deputy asked would the Taoiseach or the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs be prepared to make a statement. He did not mention a question.

I allowed a question and the Taoiseach answered it.

On the Order of Business, could I ask the Taoiseach when do the Government intend to publish the White Paper on Industrial Policy?

The White Paper should be coming to the Government in the middle of next month approximately. We hope to publish it obviously some time after that, either in the latter part of June or the first part of July.

Following on the question by Deputy Barrett and the Taoiseach's reply——

In view of the urgency of the matter, can the Taoiseach inform the House when it is proposed to introduce an independent local radio broadcasting Bill? Is he aware of the participation in that station of many of his Ministers and Ministers of State?

That is not a question for the Order of Business. The first part of the question is in order.

Legislation will be coming before the Government in the immediate future and we are anxious to bring forward legislation as soon as possible.

Would the Taoiseach comment on the participation of his Ministers, Ministers of State and TDs?

That does not arise on the Order of Business.

It was used for propaganda purposes and resulted in his election as Taoiseach.

Deputy Leyden will please resume his seat.

Is it intended to introduce legislation, if necessary, to direct school bus drivers and inspectors to carry school children who have valid tickets——

That is not in order.

I am talking about children who hold valid tickets and who are not being carried in Donegal.

The Deputy knows that is out of order.

On a point of order, considering the unusual decision taken by you, A Cheann Comhairle, in the matter of the suspension of a Deputy from the House last evening, did you have an opportunity overnight to consider your position? You may have created a precedent.

The Chair cannot have his decisions questioned in that way.

Would you indicate to the House under what Standing Order you dealt with the matter of the suspension of Deputy Lyons last evening?

As a matter of courtesy, I explained this to the leader of the Deputy's party yesterday evening when he raised the matter and I will not go into it again.

Surely it is not out of order to ask what Standing Order you applied.

I am not prepared to discuss it.

When is it proposed that the Minister for Agriculture will set up a potato marketing authority. In view of the confusion which has arisen about the importation of potatoes, this is very urgent.

The Deputy may ask a question but he may not make a speech.

I could not hear the Deputy's question fully. I wonder could he repeat it.

I want to know when the Government propose to set up a potato marketing authority?

There is no proposal. It does not arise on the Order of Business.
