asked the Minister for Finance if he will give estimates for 1984, 1985 and 1986 of (i) current expenditure, including debt service, on the basis of unchanged policies and no reductions in the level of public services from their current level; (ii) the additional costs to (i) of maintaining the real value of all weekly social welfare benefits and health allowances, from an April date each year, apportioned between the Exchequer, employers and employees on the present ratio; (iii) the tax revenue yield at present tax rates, incorporating the proposals in the 1983 Finance Bill, detailing income tax, income and youth employment levies, capital taxes, and PRSI contributions; (iv) the changes from (iii) in the revenue yield which would result from (a) indexing flat rate excise and other flat rate taxes, (b) indexing income tax allowances, (c) indexing income tax bands; (v) non-tax revenue; and (vi) the growth rate, inflation rate used in making the projections.

The information sought by the Deputy is not available. The preparation of estimates as required can be usefully undertaken only in the context of a Government plan for the medium-term management of the economy. The Deputy will be aware that the National Planning Board have been asked by the Government to prepare a draft of such a plan.
