Vol. 343 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

629.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when an application for social welfare assistance will be re-examined by the appeals officer in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Clare.

The case of the person concerned was referred to a social welfare officer for clarification of points raised by him in support of his appeal against the amount of means assessed against him.

When these inquiries are completed his case will be submitted to an appeals officer for determination and the rate of unemployment assistance at present being paid to him will be reviewed in the light of the decision in the case. He is at present receiving unemployment assistance at the rate of £14.35 a week being the maximum of £57.95 payable in his case less means of £43.60. The means assessed against him are derived from the profit from his holding and from capital.

630.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason an old age pension was refused to a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon.

The local pension committee decided that the person concerned is entitled to a pension at the rate of £20.45 plus £10.30 adult dependant allowance but the social welfare officer is appealing against this decision as the assessment of the claimant's means, consisting of half the weekly value of a holding, exceeds the statutory limit of £38.00.

The case is being referred to an appeals officer for determination and the claimant will be notified of the outcome in due course.
