Vol. 343 No. 4

Written Answers. - Extradition Orders.

770.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of people served with extradition orders in the year ended 31 December 1981 and in the period 1 January to 31 May 1983; their nationalities and gender; and the number actually extradited.

Limerick East): It is assumed that the question is intended to include not only cases of extradition as such but also cases in which warrants issued in Britain and Northern Ireland are enforced here and that the reference to persons being served with extradition orders is intended to refer to cases where court orders for extradition or removal were made.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that in the year ended 31 December 1981, there were 44 such cases (including 2 involving females) in which court orders were issued and 37 persons (including one female) were extradited or removed from the State pursuant to such orders. In the period from 1 January 1983 to 31 May 1983, the corresponding figures were 18 (including one female) and 15 (including one female). Information as to the nationalities of the persons concerned is not available.
