Vol. 343 No. 10

Written Answers. - County Wexford Workers.

657.

asked the Minister for Labour when he will ensure that money in lieu of notice or holiday pay will be paid to 26 workers in a firm (details supplied) in County Wexford.

I understand that the compensation awarded to the employees concerned under the Minimum Notice and Terms of Employment Act, 1973 has not been paid as the receiver appointed to the company has indicated that there are no funds available to him to make the payments. As the company is in receivership, there is no action which I can take towards recovery of the sums awarded. The employees concerned should, if they have not already done so, request the receiver to treat the amounts due under the Minimum Notice and Terms of Employment Act, 1973 as preferential debts and that any money due to them under the Holidays (Employees) Act, 1973 be similarly treated.
