Vol. 344 No. 3

Written Answers. - Natural Gas Supply for Clonmel.

705.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if his Department will authorise An Bord Gáis to enter into negotiations with Clonmel Corporation to supply natural gas to Clonmel as the main pipe-line from Cork to Dublin passes within two miles of Clonmel and a spur is to be placed on that line to feed Clonmel; and, if so, when he will so authorise.

All the necessary reports of studies carried out to evaluate the viability of natural gas distribution in Clomel are now in my Department. These reports are at an advanced stage of examination and meetings have taken place with Clonmel Corporation and BGE officials to discuss them.

The decision to construct the Clonmel spur-line, off the main Cork-Dublin pipe-line, requires Government approval. Accordingly, I will endeavour to bring proposals for gas supply to Clonmel before the Government at the earliest possible opportunity.
