Vol. 344 No. 3

Written Answers. - Private Pilot Licences.

717.

asked the Minister for Transport the number of persons who hold private pilot licences in this country; the annual increase in numbers and percentages over the past 15 years; the number of small aircraft in the country; and the annual increase in their numbers.

The following tabular statement shows the number of small aircraft (under 6,000 lbs. in the private category) on the Irish Register with annual increases-decreases in the period 1968-1982. The statement also shows the number of private pilot licences issued each year in the ten-year period ended 31st December 1982, with variations, this being the period for which records are available. These licences are issued with a validity period of two years for all those applicants under 40 years of age and this accounts for the fluctuations in certain years.
