Vol. 344 No. 9

Written Answers. - School Capitation Grant.

109.

asked the Minister for Education whether it is her intention that the teaching of Irish to each pupil will no longer be a necessity for the payment of a capitation grant in the event of the retirement/resignation of a teacher of Irish in a secondary school (details supplied) in Dublin 7 in which the remaining teachers of Irish already work the maximum number of class contact hours; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

There is no proposal to revise the relevant regulations governing the payment of capitation grant in respect of recognised pupils in secondary schools.

A maximum number of contact hours per teacher is not specified for the purpose of the Rules for the Payment of Grants to Secondary Schools or of the Rules for the Payment of Incremental Salary to Secondary Teachers.
