Vol. 345 No. 3

Written Answers. - Family Home Ownership.

422.

asked the Minister for Justice when it is intended to introduce a Bill in regard to joint ownership of the family home; and if it will make provision for those who are legally separated.

Limerick East): Work is in progress on the preparation of the legislation to give each spouse equal rights of ownership in the family home and contents. It is not yet possible to say when it will be ready for introduction in the Oireachtas. As the Deputy will be aware, any legislation dealing with the ownership of property involves complex matters which require detailed consideration. However, the preparation of the Bill is advancing at all possible speed.

The position of spouses who have legally separated is being borne in mind in the preparation of the legislation.
