Vol. 345 No. 11

Written Answers. - County Galway School Extension.

525.

asked the Minister for Education if she will confirm the allocation of the necessary funds for the erection of a major extension to Creagh national school, County Galway; and the cost of the overall project; the date finance was allocated by her Department; if she will confirm the proposed commencement and expected completion dates; if the successful contractor has obtained a bond; and if the Office of Public Works has viewed it and approved the recommended contractor.

526.

asked the Minister for Education the present position in relation to a school (details supplied) in County Galway; the money sanctioned for the extension; the date on which it was sanctioned; the date on which the tender will be accepted for the extension; the date on which construction of the extension will commence; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 525 and 526 together.

On 9 November, 1983 a proposal that the extension to Creagh national school, County Galway, should proceed to contract was approved and the usual formal letters were issued by my Department to the chairman of the school's board of management and to the Commissioners of Public Works. This letter taken together with the formal letter sanctioning the grant for this project which issued on 5 May 1982, may be regarded as confirmation that the necessary funds are being allocated for the project. I understand that the Commissioners of Public Works have in turn issued the necessary authorisations and the further arrangements now lie with the school's chairman and architect. Information as to the dates on which work may actually commence on site and on which the project may be completed is not available to me. I shall be in touch with the Deputies as soon as I have this information. It is not the practice of my Department to disclose in individual cases information as to costings or bond arrangements.
