Limerick Corporation's request that the allocation under the Environmental Works (Youth Employment) Scheme be increased by £100,000 was received in my Department on 4 November 1983. The corporation have already been notified of allocations totalling £189,000 for environment works schemes this year. As the total amount of money available to me for distribution under these schemes in the current year has already been allocated in full, I regret that I cannot accede to the corporation's request. However, I hope to be in a position early in 1984 to notify local authorities generally of their allocations for environment works schemes of that year.
