Vol. 346 No. 2

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1, 3, 5, 9 and 10 on the Order Paper. By agreement the proceedings will be interrupted at 3.30 p.m. to take No. 10.

On the Order of Business may I ask the Taoiseach if the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry intends to make a statement on the outcome of the discussions he had yesterday with the former directors of the board of management of Chipboard, Scariff, and the discussions his officials had with the receiver in Scariff? Will he do this today to give us an indication of the results of those discussions?

It does not arise strictly on the Order of Business.

It is very important.

I know. There are many very important matters.

I think the Taoiseach wants to reply.

I am puzzled by your adverb, a Cheann Comhairle, as to what I should do.

My adverb was used deliberately. It is not in order on the Order of Business, but if a brief answer to the question is desired, it can be given. That is not to start a criss-cross discussion.

The answer is no.

I should like to inquire from the Taoiseach if the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism will confirm that he met representatives of the depositors of the Private Motorists' Provident Society yesterday, and if he will make a statement on the outcome.

That certainly does not arise.

The Minister might like to comment.

I should like to ask the Minister for Agriculture if it is true that he is not responsible for the policies being pursued by ACOT especially relating——

We are now getting into an impromptu Question Time.

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the proposed closure of the Webco factory in Tralee.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

Could we have clarification on the entitlements of the PMPA employees who will lose their jobs tomorrow?

That does not arise.

Could we have clarification on the question of the redundancy payments which was raised in the House previously?

If it is urgent the Deputy has another avenue for exploring it.

Following correspondence from you I raised that matter. I received a letter from you saying the Minister has not responsibility for the policies of ACOT.

The Deputy will appreciate that the Chair does not bring all the files into the House with him. If the Deputy wants to discuss it with the Chair he can call to his office.

I want your permission to raise on the Adjournment the subject matter of the discussion the other day on the PMPA and the closure of the subsidiaries tomorrow.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

I should like to raise on the Adjournment the proposed redundancies in the factory in Ballymote, County Sligo.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

With your permission I should like to raise on the Adjournment the uncontrolled sale of video nasties in Dublin.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

I wish to raise on the Adjournment the sudden closure of the factory in Castlerea, County Roscommon with the loss of 18 jobs. I should like the Minister to take some positive action.

The Chair will communicate with the Deputy.

Will the Taoiseach ask the Minister for Transport to make a statement——

This is a new formula but it will not work.
