Vol. 346 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Galway Water and Sewerage Schemes.

303.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason the updated preliminary report, which was sent to his Department in October 1981 in respect of the Dunmore/Glenamaddy regional water supply scheme, County Galway, has not been approved; and when he intends to issue approval to Galway County Council.

Revised preliminary proposals for the Dunmore/Glenamaddy regional water supply scheme stage 2, phases 1 and 2 were submitted to my Department on 16 October 1981. The county council were requested by letter of 6 January 1982 to indicate the priority rating of the scheme on the council's priority list of water and sewerage schemes in planning and have been requested in discussions with the Department's inspector to indicate if all necessary sites and wayleaves for the scheme have been acquired. The submission of this information is awaited and is necessary to enable me to consider whether to approve the scheme. I cannot, therefore, say at this stage when a decision on the preliminary report will issue.

asked the Minister for the Environment when it is hoped to approve the preliminary report on Knocknacarragh sewerage scheme, stage two and phase three, in County Galway which was submitted to his Department in June 1982.

Approval to the preliminary report and to the preparation of contract documents for phase 1 of stage 2 of the Knocknacarragh sewerage scheme issued to Galway County Council on 6 July 1983. It is now a matter for the county council to prepare and submit contract documents for this scheme to my Department for examination and approval. Approval to proposals for an advance section of stage 2 of the Knocknacarragh sewerage scheme to facilitate building development in the Knocknacarragh area issued to the local authority on 18 October 1983. A Local Loans Fund loan application of £80,000 in respect of the work is being processed at present. The sections of stage 2 which have been approved are considered to be adequate to meet the demand for sewerage facilities in the Knocknacarragh area for the next 15 to 20 years.
