Vol. 346 No. 6

Written Answers. - Occupational Pension Schemes.

447.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider making it a condition for approval of a pension scheme under the Finance Act, 1972 that the members of the scheme, through their trade unions, should nominate half the trustees of the scheme.

The provisions of the Finance Act, 1972, relating to occupational pension schemes, are concerned with the administration of the tax exemptions and reliefs granted to such schemes. These provisions lay down conditions for approval to establish the bona fides of schemes and to ensure that they are not used for tax avoidance purposes. It would be inappropriate to amend the legislation to impose a condition of the kind suggested.
