asked the Minister for Agriculture the name, rank, salary, allowances and terms and conditions of employment of advisers and assistants, other than civil servants, at present employed by him or his Ministers of State.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the number of personal contract assistants employed by him and his Ministers of State; the cost of each; and the overall cost to the taxpayer.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 56 and 57 together and as the reply is in the form of a tabular statement I propose to circulate the information requested with the Official Report. The statement is a follows:

when the appointments of the Minister/Ministers of State cease. The three appointments are on a full time basis and the appointees are on secondment from the Houses of the Oireachtas for the duration of their appointments.

Dr M. Conry

Special Adviser to the Minister of State (Mr Connaughton)

In addition to existing salary a temporary non pensionable allowance of £700 per year is payable in respect of this appointment

Dr Conry is an employee of An Foras Talúntais. His appointment is on a part-time basis for one day each week and his salary for one day will be recouped by my Department to An Foras Taluntais. He will be entitled to motor mileage rates and subsistence allowance at civil service rates. The appointment is temporary and will terminate not later than the date on which the Government ceases to hold office or alternatively at any time on one month's notice in writing on either side.

Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 125 and 126 together. I have made two such appointments since I took up office, I appointed Ms. Breda Clifford, a secretarial assistant in the Houses of the Oireachtas, as my personal secretary and Mr. Michael Whelan, an employee of CIE, as my personal assistant. Both appointments are temporary and wholetime and will terminate not later than the date on which the present Government cease to hold office.

Ms. Clifford's annual remuneration is her secretarial assistant salary of £6,807, plus a non-pensionable allowance of £574, which total £7,381. In addition, the Department, as employer, are liable for contributions in respect of PRSI and superannuation, which amount to £1,878 annually.

Mr. Whelan's remuneration is £12,690, which represents his salary of £11,536 from CIE plus 10 per cent to cover extra attendance. In addition, the Department, as employer, are liable for contributions amounting to £1,070 in respect of his PRSI and superannuation.

asked the Minister for Education the name, rank, salary, allowances and terms and conditions of employment of adviers and assistants, other than civil servants, at present employed by her or her Minister of State.

asked the Minister for Education the number of personal contract assistants employed by her and her Minister of State; the cost of each and the overall cost to the taxpayer.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 160 and 161 together. The information requested by the Deputies is as follows:

Three appointments have been made:

1. Dr. John W. Harris, adviser to the Minister at a salary of £22,792 per annum. He is on secondment from his post as Principal of Newpark Comprehensive School, Dublin.

2. Mrs. Dee Johnstone, personal secretary to the Minister, at £125 per week, plus a non-pensionable allowance of £11.00 per week.

3. Miss Katherine Lyons, personal assistant to the Minister of State, at £114.06 per week, plus a non-pensionable allowance of £11.00 per week. She is on secondment from the secretarial staff provided for members of Dáil Éireann.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 198 and 199 together. I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 421 of March 1983. Mr. W. Scally, receives a salary of £20,216 plus allowances of £1,920 per annum from his company and these amounts are recouped from my Department; Mr. J. Revington is engaged as a special adviser at a salary of £17,773 per annum while Miss S. Clarke is remunerated at a salary of £10,533 per annum.

All appointments and contract arrangements will be co-terminous with the terms of office of the Minister of State and myself.
