Vol. 346 No. 7

Supplementary Estimates, 1983: Leave to Introduce.

I move: That leave be given by the Dáil to introduce the following Suplementary Estimates for the service of the year ending on the 31st day of December, 1983, namely:—

Votes Nos.:—

28 (Office of the Minister for Education),

32 (Higher Education),

37 (Agriculture),

39 (Labour),

47 (Social Welfare),

49 (Industry and Energy).

When is it proposed to have them introduced?

Next Tuesday, subject to agreement between the Whips.

There is one very large amount of nearly £70 million. Could the Minister give an indication of what this covers?

The details of the Supplementary Estimates, according to practice, are being circulated to Deputies this morning. The Deputy will find all the details there.

What does the £69 million cover?

The details are being circulated to Deputies in the normal way and the total requirement of £69.9 million is explained in the sheet.

This is going a bit far.

Open Government.

Question declared carried.

May I say how glad I am that the irresponsible attempt of the Opposition to block the payment of the double week——

(Interruptions.)

If it was not for the by-election they would never have got it.

Every Labour vote cost £9,000.

(Interruptions.)

Order, please.

I want to bring——

Is this a point of order?

Yes. I want to bring this to your attention. The Taoiseach has made a disorderly interjection. Do you intend to take any action?

That is one of those things——

(Interruptions.)

I trust you will extend the same compassion to me on a future occasion.

The Chair will judge each intervention on its merits.

The Chair is aware that the Taoiseach was talking through his hat in what he said.

(Interruptions.)

I am calling Item No. 7.
