asked the Minister for the Environment if he will ensure that the maximum grants will be made available to Clare Island group water scheme, County Mayo; and if he will give permission to the group to seek tenders so that this work may commence without delay.

Mayo County Council submitted a design and grant application forms to this Department on 10 October 1983 for the proposed Clare Island group water supply scheme and said that they would submit their approval of the scheme to my Department shortly. The Council's approval is awaited and in the meantime the design is being examined in my Department.
When the design has been approved by my Department and by Mayo County Council the group will be advised to seek tenders for the construction of the scheme and to submit these to my Department. On receipt of these tenders an estimate of costs will be prepared and grants will be allocated at the current rate.
