In addition to the purposes mentioned by the Deputy licences have also been granted under the Cruelty to Animals Act for the following purposes:
— teaching in the universities, medical schools, dental schools and the veterinary college.
— research by the Department of Fisheries and Forestry.
— research by An Foras Talúntais.
— the research, development and testing of products by a number of pharmaceutical firms.
