Vol. 346 No. 10

Written Answers. - Dundalk Water Scheme.

215.

asked the Minister for the Environment in view of the fact that the EEC have grant-aided the purchase of Lake Muckno and adjoining lands, whether he had any communication with them in relation to their approval prior to making the provisional water order and confirming the compulsory purchase order for Dundalk Urban District Council water augmentation scheme.

Amenity development work at Hope Castle is being grant-aided under the Special Border Areas Programme which is financed, roughly on a 50-50 basis, by the Exchequer and the European Regional Development Fund. As I have already informed the Deputy in reply to Question No. 234 on 19 October last, I gave full and careful consideration to the evidence presented at the public local inquiry in relation to the Hope Castle Amenity Area before making the provisional order referred to and I was satisfied that undue injury to amenity would not result. In these circumstances, the question of communicating with the EEC in relation to the water supply proposal did not arise.
