Veterinary surgeons are exempted from the provisions of the 1974 regulations prohibiting the sale of chloramphenicol except under licence. A veterinarian may either supply the drug for the treatment of an animal under his care or furnish a prescription under which a pharmacist can sell the drug to the person named in the prescription.
