Written Answers. - Board Pleanála Employees.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of full-time permanent staff employed by An Bord Pleanála.

255.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of planning inspectors employed by An Bord Pleanála on 1 January 1982 and 1983, and 1 July and 1 December, 1983

I propose the take Questions Nos. 254 and 255 together. My Department continues to provide staffing services for An Bord Pleanála pending recruitment by the board of their staff.

The number of planning inspectors assigned to An Bord Pleanála was 16 on 1 January, 1982, and was 15 on 1 January, 1983, 1 July, 1983 and 1 December, 1983. It is open to the board to recruit a further 4 inspectors in accordance with an approved inspectorate. A panel of 10 part-time consultants was available up to July 1983 when the number was increased to 14.

The number of other staff currently assigned to the board is 57, while the board themselves employs one full-time permanent officer, viz. the chief officer. A structure for administrative staff has also been approved and it is in the first instance a matter for the board to arrange recruitment.
