Vol. 346 No. 10

Written Answers. - Enniscorthy National Schools.

462.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware that eight classrooms in national schools in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, are vacant at present and that there are numerous areas in County Wexford where national school pupils are being asked to sit in cramped and damp classrooms, if she will immediately issue sanction for the schools at Courtnacuddy, Glynn, Rosslare and Curracloe; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The position with regard to the extension projects at three of the national schools referred to in the Deputy's question, namely Courtnacuddy, Glynn and Rosslare, is that the Commissioners of Public Works have been authorised to proceed with arrangements for the placing of contracts. The question of releasing to tender the building of a new school at Curracloe National School is under consideration.

A number of other building projects for national schools in County Wexford are reaching an advanced stage of architectural planning, and will in due course provide improved conditions throughout the county.

I am aware that there are a number of vacant classrooms at present in national schools in Enniscorthy.
