Vol. 346 No. 10

Written Answers. - Newbridge (Kildare) Garda Station.

72.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will increase the number of gardaí operating in the Newbridge area of County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

73.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has any proposals to increase Garda strength and provide for extra foot patrols in Newbridge, County Kildare.

Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 72 and 73 together.

The detailed deployment of Garda manpower is a matter for the Garda authorities and the precise arrangements made for the allocation of manpower between foot patrols and other duties in any particular area are decided by the local Garda officers, having regard to available resources, local circumstances and other demands on Garda services.

The Garda authorities inform me that two newly-trained gardaí were assigned to Newbridge station on 25 March 1983 and they propose to allocate another garda to the centre from the next group of recruits due to complete their training on 22 December. The question of further increases in Garda strength at Newbridge, which would allow for improved patrolling of the town, will be kept under review.
