Dáil Éireann díospóireacht -

Vol. 346 No. 11

Agricultural Produce Regulations: Motion.

I move:

That Dáil Éireann approves the following regulations in draft:

Pigs and Bacon Act, 1935 (Part II) (No. 10) Regulations, 1983 and Agricultural Produce (Fresh Meat) Act, 1930 (Exporters' Licences) (Fees) Regulations,

copies of which were laid in draft before the Dáil on the 9th day of December, 1983.

Is the Minister aware of the unemployment that has resulted from the closure of Lunham's bacon factory in Cork and the difficulties caused for the pig industry because in many cases pigs have to be transported 240 miles to Castlebar, or elsewhere, for killing? If the Minister is so aware what steps is he taking to remedy the situation?

It has been agreed by the House that these items be disposed of without debate.

I am asking the Minister a question because I will not have another opportunity to do so until January.

I am afraid the decision of the House cannot be altered at this stage.

The Chair should be sympathetic, because I will not have an opportunity of raising this until the end of January.

The Adjournment Debate will be long and no doubt the Deputy will have an opportunity of raising this in the course of it.

Question put and agreed to.
