Vol. 347 No. 4

Written Answers. - Blackrock (Cork) Garda Station.

263.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state in regard to the proposed new Garda station for the Mahon area, Blackrock, Cork: (a) if it will be a district headquarters; (b) the modern facilities that will be installed there; and (c) the proposed number of Garda personnel that will be assigned to the station.

Limerick East): The new Garda station which is being provided for Blackrock will not be a district headquarters.

The station will be a two-storey building incorporating all the accommodation and facilities required for the provision of an efficient Garda service, including offices, reception and interview rooms, cells, staff rooms, and so on. Modern communication facilities will be available at this station as part of the new communications network which is being provided for the Garda Síochána.

With regard to the number of Garda personnel to be assigned there, the organisation of the Garda Síochána in Cork city and surrounding areas is under review at present and a decision regarding the strength of the Blackrock station party will be made in the context of this review.
