asked the Taoiseach if he will state in respect of County Louth, the number employed in agriculture; the number employed in the ancillary agricultural services (supply and processing); and the number employed in manufacturing industries; and if he will give a summary of these industries.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state in respect of County Louth, the number employed in State and semi-State bodies; the number of school going children (primary and secondary) at the last census; the number employed in service industries (to manufacture); and the number employed in other areas not covered by the foregoing questions.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 260 and 261 together. Provisional estimates of the number of persons at work classified by economic activity in County Louth are available from the 1981 Census of Population. Following are the details:

The final census results, which will be available later this year, will contain greater detail by industry in which employed. However, information on the numbers employed in State and semi-State bodies will not be available separately.

With regard to school-going children, the Department of Education conducts an annual census of enrolments and in September 1983 there were 16,234 children enrolled in primary schools and 7,600 in second level post primary schools in County Louth.
